La prima sezione della Corte Suprema federale brasiliana ha confermato l’autorizzazione all’estradizione in Italia di Rocco Morabito, narcotrafficante della ‘Ndrangheta e considerato uno dei criminali più ricercati al mondo. Lo riportano i media brasiliani. A maggio 2021, Morabito è stato arrestato dalla polizia federale a João Pessoa e poi trasferito al carcere penitenziario federale di Brasilia, dove è detenuto. Nel marzo di quest’anno un tribunale aveva disposto la sua estradizione. Nella seduta di ieri, la Corte suprema si è pronunciata su un ricorso della difesa. La Corte suprema brasiliana ha dunque deciso di estradare il superlatitante Rocco Morabito, 66 anni, uno dei broker più noti del narcotraffico di cocaina al mondo, esponente di spicco della ‘ndrangheta di Africo, nella Locride. Nell’elenco dei latitanti più ricercati in Italia, Morabito, era secondo solo a Matteo Messina Denaro, ma certamente non meno pericoloso. Come tanti altri giovani malavitosi calabresi, anche per lui è Milano la prima città su cui puntare per allargare amicizie e consolidare alleanze, irrobustire gli ‘affari’. Lontano parente del boss Giuseppe Morabito ‘u tiradrittu’ , Rocco Morabito cresce di livello criminale alla corte di uno zio, Domenico Antonio Mollica, uno dei protagonisti della cruenta faida di Motticella scaturita per i contrasti derivati dalla spartizione del provento di un sequestro di persona, negli anni ’80. A Milano, il giovane Rocco non fa solo bella vita – è frequentatore assiduo del ristorante Nepentha, sempre accompagnato da belle ragazze e modelle – ma viene anche sorpreso dagli inquirenti in incontri con emissari dei vari cartelli colombiani dediti al traffico di cocaina. I soldi crescono in maniera esponenziale e il giovane narcos costruisce una villa a Casarile, tra le province di Milano e Pavia, e ne acquista un’altra ad Africo. Nel 1994 Rocco Morabito subisce una prima condanna a 30 anni di reclusione nel processo scaturito dall’operazione ‘Fortaleza’, la città brasiliana che era diventata la ‘filiale’ in Sud America per i suoi traffici. Evita la cattura e, probabilmente, riesce a raggiungere il Brasile e rifugiarsi, trascorrendo una latitanza dorata tra Montevideo (Uruguay) e Punta de l’Este, distanti poco meno di due ore di macchina. Dopo quasi ventiquattro di latitanza, sebbene costantemente ricercato dai carabinieri, Morabito viene individuato ed arrestato a Montevideo il 4 settembre del 2017, quando decide di iscrivere la figlia a scuola usando il vero cognome. Due anni dopo, il Tribunale uruguayano ne autorizza l’estradizione in Italia, ma il latitante evade dal carcere con altri complici in maniera mai chiarita, riuscendo a spostarsi nel confinante Brasile. Una fuga, la sua, che per i carabinieri del Ros diventa una ‘sfida’, fino a che non riescono di nuovo ad arrestarlo a San Paolo con una operazione congiunta con Interpol, polizia brasiliana, Dea e Fbi. Finisce così, dopo oltre ventitré anni, la latitanza di Rocco Morabito.
