Associazione di tipo mafioso, omicidio, estorsioni, usura, delitti in materia di armi, furti, danneggiamenti seguiti da incendio, tutti aggravati dal metodo mafioso. Sono questi i reati contestati, a vario titolo, nell’ambito dell’operazione dei Carabinieri che hanno eseguito, su mandato della Dda di Catanzaro, 12 fermi a Petilia Policastro e Bussolengo (VR). Le persone fermate dai militari del Comando provinciale carabinieri di Crotone, con il supporto di personale del Comando provinciale carabinieri di Verona, dello Squadrone eliportato Cacciatori Calabria. sono: Domenico Bruno, 49 anni di Petilia Policastro; Giacinto Castagnino, 31 anni di Petilia Policastro; Massimo Cosco, 40 anni di Pagliarelle, frazione di Petilia; Giuseppe Garofalo, 35 anni di Pagliarelle; Giuseppe Garofalo , 66 anni di Cotronei; Mario Garofalo, 45 anni di Pagliarelle; Alessandro Gelfo, 31 di Crotone; Antonio Gelfo, 58 anni, di Cotronei; Pierluigi Ierardi, 29 anni di Petilia Policastro; Ivano Mirabelli, 48 anni di Pagliarelle; Tommaso Rizzuti, 39 anni di Cotronei; Francesco Scalise, 34 anni di Petilia Policastro; Oreste Vona, 46 anni di Cotronei. Alcuni degli indagati sono coinvolti nell’omicidio di Massimo Vona, bracciante agricolo di 44 anni, scomparso dal 30 ottobre 2018. L’attività investigativa avrebbe permesso di identificare il mandante ed un esecutore materiale dell’omicidio, ricostruendone le varie fasi. Il 30 ottobre 2018, la vittima, dopo essere stata attirata in un’azienda agricola in località “Scardiato” di Petilia Policastro, con il falso pretesto di consegnargli i responsabili dell’incendio appiccato nell’anno 2016 in danno del suo capannone, sarebbe stata uccisa, con almeno due colpi di arma da fuoco, dall’assassino che lo attendeva con alcuni complici ancora sconosciuti. I responsabili avrebbero, poi, proceduto alla distruzione del cadavere, mai ritrovato. L’8 novembre 2018, in località Scavino di Petilia Policastro, i carabinieri trovarono solo la carcassa dell’autovettura dell’allevatore scomparso, completamente distrutta dalle fiamme e abbandonata in una stradina interpoderale fra gli uliveti. “Abbiamo fatto luce su alcuni omicidi ma soprattutto abbiamo trovato le armi per un nuovo omicidio. Siamo stati costretti a intervenire e fare i fermi. Avevano una grande disponibilità di armi: vecchi frigoriferi pieni di armi e sotterrati” ha detto il procuratore capo di Catanzaro, Nicola Gratteri, intervenendo alla conferenza stampa per l’operazione “Eolo”. “Siamo da parecchi anni su Petilia Policastro – ha aggiunto Gratteri – una zona a torto ritenuta a scarsa densità mafiosa. In realtà c’è una mafia forte, con un locale di ndrangheta strutturato e che si interfaccia con le cosche più forti del territorio”. “Abbiamo documentato affiliazioni, riunioni, la presenza della “bacinella”, la cassa che serve a mantenere economicamente i detenuti in carcere; ma soprattutto abbiamo visto una enorme quantità e qualità di armi” ha detto Gratteri.Il magistrato ha sottolineato che non c’è stata nessuna collaborazione da parte di collaboratori di giustizi, ma “solo il frutto delle attività di indagine dei carabinieri”.Rispetto alla posizione della consorteria mafiosa della presila crotonese, colpita dai fermi, ha aggiunto: “E’ una provincia vasta ed una diffusione ‘ndranghetista capillare e pervasiva, che si rapporta abitualmente con le famiglie più potenti di Isola Capo Rizzuto”.
