La Regione Calabria ha tra gli obiettivi principali lo sviluppo della sostenibilità dei centri urbani. Per questo promuove azioni volte a migliorare la qualità della vita dei cittadini e a dare vigore alle attività commerciali, che qui hanno una maggiore concentrazione, considerando l’efficienza della distribuzione delle merci. Con la prima Manifestazione d’Interesse per la concessione di contributi finalizzati alla realizzazione di interventi di logistica urbana, la Regione ha finanziato interventi in attuazione della Misura 2.5 City Logistics del Piano Regionale dei Trasporti, approvato nel 2016, dotato di VAS e valutato positivamente dalla Commissione Europea. Questo avviso ha consentito di finanziare tre città che hanno presentato progetti ammissibili: Reggio Calabria, Rende e Vibo Valentia. Il 16 settembre è stata pubblicata una nuova Manifestazione di interesse, per realizzare progetti di logistica urbana in altre città. Il Presidente Mario Oliverio ha evidenziato come l’intento sia quello di rendere le città calabresi più vivibili, più accessibili, meno inquinate, in cui sia tutelata la salute dei cittadini e sia incentivato lo sviluppo del commercio.
