La partecipazione della Regione Calabria si inserisce nel quadro di un più ampio piano di sviluppo regionale sul tema delle infrastrutture portuali che registra uno stanziamento di 58 milioni di euro per 10 porti, per aumentare la loro attrattività riqualificando le strutture esistenti, le attrezzature di supporto alla nautica da diporto e dei posti barca a terra e migliorando le infrastrutture di collegamento del sistema di trasporti mare-entroterra. Molti i punti di forza che restituiscono una centralità del territorio regionale rispetto ai flussi di traffico marittimo che interessano il bacino del Mediterraneo, nelle direzioni nord-sud ed est-ovest. Tra questi la presenza di una pluralità di porti, sia sul versante tirrenico che su quello ionico, facilmente connettibili con quelli delle regioni limitrofe (Sicilia, Puglia e Basilicata) e l’importanza del Porto di Gioia Tauro, scalo merci per il transhipment di livello mondiale, con elevate potenzialità di sviluppo legate alla possibile creazione di un nodo intermodale e all’integrazione funzionale con l’area della Piana. In tale importante contesto, l’appuntamento di Genova costituirà l’occasione per mostrare al pubblico internazionale di visitatori, le eccellenze di un territorio che vanta ricchezza di risorse produttive, ambientali ed infrastrutturali.
