“Si può raggiungere un accordo anche coinvolgendo i partiti principali della coalizione”. Lo ha detto il sindaco di Cosenza, Mario Occhiuto, designato da Forza Italia e da altri partiti del centrodestra e movimenti quale candidato alla presidenza della Regione, parlando con i giornalisti a margine di un’iniziativa politica a Soverato. Rispondendo a una domanda sul fatto che ancora Lega e Fratelli d’Italia non si siano espressi sulla sua candidatura, Occhiuto ha osservato: “Percepisco un momento di esaltazione del civismo. Tante persone che incontro sui territori stanno dimostrando di avere voglia di partecipare al nostro progetto politico, a prescindere dalle sigle dei partiti. Noi siamo comunque inclusivi. La mia – ha detto – è una candidatura che parte da un progetto coinvolgendo i soggetti che hanno già aderito, ma è aperta anche agli altri partiti. Quindi – ha aggiunto il sindaco di Cosenza e candidato forzista alla presidenza della Regione – mi auguro che nelle prossime settimane, nei prossimi giorni si possa definire, all’interno della coalizione del centrodestra, un candidato unitario. Vorrei che ci incontrassimo, che si incontrassero anche i partiti perché finalmente si possa arrivare a una condivisione anche sul nome del candidato, che comunque – ricordo – in Calabria dovrebbe essere ed è di Forza Italia, perché già da tempo a livello nazionale è stata delineata questa suddivisione. Ma, a prescindere da questo, noi abbiamo ribaltato questa sorta di prassi che vige nei partiti, nel senso che – ha concluso Occhiuto – noi stiamo andando sui territori a dire cosa abbiamo fatto, a presentare idee e un progetto e a condividerli, e penso, anzi mi auguro e sono convinto che su questo progetto possano aggregarsi anche gli altri partiti”.
